What is it about?

The Hyperion XP-1 is a hydrogen-powered hypercar developed by California-based Hyperion Motors, unveiled in August 2020. Designed to showcase the potential of hydrogen fuel cell technology, the XP-1 boasts impressive specifications: a 0-60 mph acceleration in under 2.2 seconds, a top speed exceeding 220 mph, and a remarkable range of over 1,000 miles on a single hydrogen fill-up. Its powertrain consists of four axial-flux electric motors, delivering a combined output of over 2,000 horsepower, all housed within a lightweight carbon-titanium monocoque chassis weighing approximately 1,032 kilograms. Notably, the XP-1 features advanced technologies such as active aerodynamic elements that double as solar panels and a 98-inch wraparound display with gesture controls. Initially slated for limited production of 300 units starting in 2022, as of 2024, production has not commenced, though development prototypes have been showcased to demonstrate the vehicle’s capabilities and promote hydrogen as a viable clean energy source.
